Are you considering a Breast Augmentation in Atlanta?

Breasts have been a sign of womanhood and femininity since the dawn of humans. It’s not surprising that women frequently seek enlargement of their breasts. In my practice I use breast augmentation to address a large number of cosmetic concerns.

No two breasts are exactly alike – even two on the same woman! While most asymmetry is quite subtle, occasionally the difference in size and/or shape is enough to cause distress. Frequently in this case a woman opts to enlarge the smaller breast to match the other – or sometimes both sides are enlarged.

Many of my patients simply desire larger breasts. There are two general types of breast implants – silicone and saline. The choice is largely personal – silicone is more expensive, but it usually feels more like natural breast tissue. There are also options for implant placement – above the chest muscle (subglandular), under the muscle, or partially under the muscle (dual plane). There are different places to make the incision in order to hide scars. I generally opt for the under the breast (inframammary) incision. This approach allows me to place the implants in the proper position and hide the scar under the breasts.

Breast augmentation can also be used to restore breast fullness that is lost through pregnancy and/or breastfeeding. Many moms tell me their breasts look “deflated” after bearing children. Breast augmentation can be an important tool in recovering your pre-baby figure!

More and more women are choosing to use their own fat from other areas of their body to enlarge their breasts – sometimes along with the use of breast implants. This cutting edge technique, fat grafting to the breasts, has the added benefit of using liposuction to sculpt another area of the body.

Whatever the reason, breast augmentation is a great way to enhance your look. Check my photo gallery for before and after pictures. Click here for a complimentary price quote. I look forward to hearing from you soon to discuss whether or not breast augmentation is the right procedure for you!

What are the benefits of breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation uses implants to create larger, fuller breasts and is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries performed in the U.S. Many women find that enhancing their figure with breast augmentation helps their clothes fit better and helps them feel sexier and more attractive. In addition to cosmetic reasons, breast augmentation is also performed for breast reconstruction. During this procedure, an implant is used to recreate one breast that is severely underdeveloped or to recreate one or both breasts after surgical removal for treatment of breast cancer.

What should I expect during my breast augmentation consultation?

Time involved, anesthesia, recovery time and other things involved in breast augmentation:

  • Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia.
  • Most patients go home the same day
  • It is not safe to operate on you if you are a smoker. I insist that my breast augmentation patients stop smoking at least one month prior to and for one month after surgery. Smoking greatly increases the risk of anesthesia and impedes healing after breast implants.

Can you have a phone/virtual consultation?

Yes, Dr. Jimerson can provide you with recommendations based on photographs of your breasts that you email to him. An in-person examination will have to be conducted prior to your procedure, but you can decide whether to proceed based on your phone and email communications with the doctor. What happens during a breast augmentation? Breast implants are inserted behind the tissue of the breast, and the incisions are made in different places depending on the results you want. The incision locations that Dr. Jimerson recommends using most often are either in the bottom crease of the breast or where the colored part of the nipple meets the lighter skin of the breast. The goal is always to create as small an incision as possible in an area where the scar will be hidden. What are the different types of breast implants? Today, breast augmentation can sometimes be achieved by taking fat from other parts of your body – usually the buttocks or thighs. This is called breast augmentation fat transfer. With this type of augmentation, your own body’s excess fat is being used, and it allows Dr. Jimerson to literally reshape your body. The most commonly used implants are: Saline breast implants, which are filled with salt water after they have been implanted. These are the least expensive type of implants, and if you have enough breast tissue already, the results are excellent. Silicone breast implants, which are filled with a silicone gel rather than salt water. The type of silicone has changed over the years so that it is safer today than in the past. The advantage of silicone is that it feels more like natural breast tissue. During your consultation, Dr. Jimerson will discuss these options with you in detail so that you can make the best decision for you. Time involved, anesthesia, recovery time and other things involved in breast augmentation:

• Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia. • Most patients go home the same day, but you must bring someone with you to drive you home, as you will still feel sleepy after your procedure. • It is not safe to operate on you if you are a smoker. Dr. Jimerson insists that breast augmentation patients stop smoking at least one month prior to surgery and for one month after surgery. Smoking greatly increases the risks of anesthesia and impedes healing after breast implants. • If you’re pregnant, you should wait about six months (if you are nursing, wait about 6 months after cessation of nursing) before you have your augmentation so that your breasts have had time to return to the size they’re going to stay after your pregnancy (which may or may not be the exact same size as before your pregnancy).

After your breast augmentation surgery:

• You will need to wear a bra around the clock for the first 2 weeks following your breast augmentation. • You should expect mild to moderate pain during the first week after your procedure. This is easily controlled with prescription pain medication. • You can resume normal daily activities after 1-2 weeks and can start exercising after 4-6 weeks.

Your new look:

• You will have fuller, shapelier breasts immediately following your breast augmentation • Your implants may take several weeks to settle into their permanent position. • Many women combine breast augmentation with other cosmetic procedures such as a breast lift, tummy tuck, or liposuction for full body contouring.
